Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with two institutions: Sunyani Polytechnic (SP) and Presbyterian University College (PUC). The MoU confers on PUC and SP the right to offer taught undergraduate programmes leading to joint awards by KNUST, PUC and SP as stated in the terms of the instrument of affiliation.
Professor William Otoo Ellis, Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, explained at the signing that affiliations established a relationship that ensured mutual benefit to both parties. It was for this reason that both parties had signed a four-year renewable agreement which demanded commitment by both institutions. He added that as part of the agreement, there would be a member from KNUST on the faculty boards of both institutions, an audit team to audit the exams conducted in the institutions and also vet students who are admitted to the institutions.
He advised the institutions to join the liaison committee which was made up of members from all affiliate institutions since it was a platform to share ideas and solve problems. He urged them to work assiduously to meet the requirements of the agreement in order to please the students and staff they served.
Dr. Isaac Asomah, Chairman of Sunyani Poly stated that having been a former lecturer of KNUST, he was privileged to partner the best university of the country once again. This partnership, he added, required hard work and determination to achieve the high academic standards of KNUST. He assured management that they would do their best to make this agreement a success.
Professor Kofi Sraku-Lartey, President of PUC also added that as a former employee of KNUST, he was grateful to the authorities for making the affiliation a reality. He was much elated to be part of the bigger family, KNUST, just before he ended his tenure of office. He assured the management of the University that PUC was equipped and ready to fulfil the requirements of the agreement.
Professor W.O Ellis, the Vice Chancellor and Mr. Kobby Yebo Okrah, Registrar, KNUST, signed the agreement on behalf of KNUST, Professor Sraku-Lartey for PUC and Dr. Asomah for SP.
